István Pálfi Day, Budapest
15 October 2013

The Ministry of Public Administration and Justice (KIM) of Hungary organised the 4th István Pálfi (1966 – 2006) Memorial Day and Award Ceremony on the 15th of October 2013 in the Magyarság Háza in Budapest. István Pálfi was the vice mayor of Berettyóújfalu, member of the Hungarian and the European Parliaments.

István Pálfy was one of those exceptional politicians who contributed to the significant changes as regards the European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) and to the preparation of its legal background.

Respecting his professional heritage in 2010 the Minister of Public Administration and Justice established an award on praising professionals who are outstandingly contributing to the development of the European Territorial Co-operations.

In 2012 the Ms Danuta Hübner Member of the European Parliament, in 2011 Mr Michel Delebarre mayor of Dunkerque, and in 2010 Mr Jan Olbrycht Member of the European Parliament were awarded. At first in this year a doubly prize was awarded: to Mr Luc Van den Brande member of Committee of Regions, counsellor of Commissioner Mr Johannes Hahn; and to Mr Gyula Ocskay Secretary General at the Central European Service for Cross-Border Initiatives (CESCI). The awards were given by Mr Tibor Navracsics Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Public Administration and Justice.

In the frame of the Memorial Day an international conference on European Territorial Co-operation was held. The emphasis was put on the sustainability of border regions after 2014. The conference drew the attention to the positive effects the cross-border programmes have on the local economy. A special attention was paid on Western and Central European programming and sharing best practices in programming.

In the frame of the international conference all cross-border programmes in which Hungary is involved had the opportunity to present their results that have already been achieved. The Hungary-Croatia (IPA) Cross-Border Co-operation programme 2007-2013 presented four projects (De-mine HU HR, Invest-Pro, Inno-CropFood, DRAVIS2) beyond the general Programme’s stand.
