ECD in Hungary-Croatia Border Region

After several local events organised in 2012 and a big Accession Conference  in Vukovar in 2013, this year the Programme has joined the campaign for the third time, supporting as many as fifteen local events organised during the week surrounding European Co-operation Day, promoting the results of joint projects realised within the Third Call for Proposals.

Hungary-Croatia Cross-border Co-operation Programme has supported the campaign since its beginning in 2012 and joined this year as well by supporting the organisation of local events by the projects financed within the Programme.

This year’s celebration of European Co-operation Day in the Hungary-Croatia border region focused primarily on the results of the most recently finalised Third Call projects, the majority of them dealing with the development of tourism in the region. The events were plentiful and colourful and included thematic and closing conferences (Pécs, Osijek, Čakovec), public cycling events (Hévíz, Koprivnica, Virovitica, Nagykanizsa), an opening of a tourist information centre (Križevci) and a wine and food festival (Nagykanizsa).
Whether it was by presentation of results of the research conducted within the projects, by leading a cross-border cyclist marathon, by opening to the public a visitors centre or through the joint presentation of traditional arts and crafts at a festival, all the events were a reminder of the great achievements made possible by cross-border co-operation of communities facing the same challenges and making the most of the shared potential. It has been inspiring to witness the finalisation of many of the tourism infrastructure development projects, including the bicycle paths, demonstrating that a cross-border co-operation programme can offer opportunities to the local citizens that were hard to imagine some years ago.
The complete list of the events, as well as reports and photographs giving an insight into the atmosphere of the celebrations can be found in the EVENTS section of the Programme’s website.
