European Co-operation Day 2014

Dear Readers,

two years ago European cross-border co-operation programmes in co-ordination with Interact and with the support of the European Commission decided to dedicate a special day to celebrate the numerous and manifold ways EU Member States co-operate with one another, as well as with their non-EU neighbours.

The Europe-wide campaign, under the name of European Co-operation Day (ECD), has been actively promoting the results of the joint efforts of neighbouring countries to benefit from their membership in the European family by addressing the issues that they share, along with the borders.

Again under the motto “Sharing borders, growing closer”, this year’s European Co-operation Day has been the most colourful yet with over 100 different local events Europe wide, ranging from film festivals and song contests to thematic conferences, exhibitions and fairs.

The Hungary-Croatia Cross-border Co-operation Programme has also joined in the campaign, following the success of the first two editions, this year focusing on the results of projects realised within the Third Call for Proposals, mainly dealing with the development of tourism in the border region. The events included a grand opening of a tourist information centre, a cross-border cyclothon and a three-day wine and food festival, with several project closing conferences also taking the opportunity to promote the idea of co-operation on the European level.

The Programme has not only been busy promoting the results of the past efforts, but has been actively working towards creating the framework for new similar joint efforts in the future, busying itself with finalising the new Co-operation Programme (Programming Document) for the next financial period.

With the programming in its final phase and the final draft of the Programming Document still to be fine tuned, we can already start making plans for the next European Co-operation Days and the celebration of new ways and fields of co-operation between the two countries.

More about all this in the Newsletter before you!

ECD 2014

With a few events still taking place during the following days, we are still waiting for the final numbers of this year’s European Co-operation Day, but one thing is certain – the local events organised this year have surpassed the ones of the previous years with their creativity, spirit and enthusiasm.

ECD in Hungary-Croatia Border Region

After several local events organised in 2012 and a big Accession Conference  in Vukovar in 2013, this year the Programme has joined the campaign for the third time, supporting as many as fifteen local events organised during the week surrounding European Co-operation Day, promoting the results of joint projects realised within the Third Call for Proposals.

INTERREG Makes a Come Back

The search for a common identity for the programmes of the European Territorial Co-operation has come to a major milestone, with reaching the decision for the 2014-2020 period. Following a year of discussions and a selection procedure with the participation of majority of the programmes, the joint branding initiative lead by Interact has developed a single common visual identity under the brand name INTERREG.

Reserve List Still Active

Thanks to the funding allocated to, but not used by the supported projects coming back to the Programme, there have been several further projects from the Third Call Reserve List funded over the course of this year, bringing the final count of supported projects to 163.

Fine Tuning of the New Programme

The First Complete Draft of the Operational Programme  for the Hungary-Croatia Cross-border Co-operation Programme 2014-2020 has been available on the Programme’s website since 7 August 2014. The Programming Document is ready for the final touches before being sent to the European Commission for approval.
